[Continued from The mysterious castle: landofriiga.proboards59.com/index.cgi?board=fabia&action=display&thread=1191715530&page=1 ] Waking up with a start, Rain sat up wide eyed. She scanned around her anxiously, but saw only thick trees and a forest floor with a light blanket of snow. Necri lay a short distance away, curled up under a blanket he pulled from the wreckage of his last home. The memory seemed distant to her, yet it had only happened two days ago. "At least it was a dream...." She whispered to herself, but not yet laying back down. The night was brisk and a steady breeze was blowing. A few stubborn dead leaves, still clinging onto the trees, waved and fluttered above her. She looked up, and choked on a cry. "Necri...?" She said, but she could barely hear her own voice. There seemed to be a figure crouched high in the trees, barely visible against the clouded night sky. Her horror-struck body refused to move towards her companion. She tried to speak again, but her words were drowned by the pounding of her heart. After much effort, she seemed to have found the key to movement, and started to slide slowly towards Necri. The thing above remained motionless, but she could feel its invisible eyes on her. She finally covered the short distance, and grabbed his shoulder, shaking it feebly. "Wake up, hurry!" She whispered frantically, "Look, look up in the tree." Her hand was still griping his arm and shaking uncontrollably.

Necri was dozing peacefully at the time. The snow had created a thin layer over him as he slept outside. He remembered sleeping out in the graveyard once, when he was young. He didn't recall liking it, but he enjoyed this sensation...until now.
"Huh? Wha?" Necri asked as he rubbed his eyes and looked up at the tree. Suddenly, he realised what Rain was talking about! He didn't know what it was, so there was really only a few options for him now-run, defend or diplomacy.
"Dead, rise to defend me!" Necri said as he raised his hands...but nothing happened. He was confused, but decided to try another spell...it didn't work either.
"Hey, you up there! Are you cancelling out my magic?" Necri asked. Since his original plan to try and defend against it didn't work, he decided to try and talk to it, to see if it had a reasonable side, if it had any real sides at all! He just hoped that it didn't try anything that he couldn't stop...

The creature jerked suddenly and landed on a branch some distance away. It was somewhat human, yet it's appearance seemed blurred against the sky. Rain jumped at it's movement, and cowered behind Necri--not that she felt he would protect her, but because she thought he might make a good shield.
"Why aren't your spell-things working?" She whispered nervously, peaking over his right shoulder at the figure.

"I...I don't know. It could be that I'm not as powerful outside of the castle, or this thing has a spell cancelling aura of some kind," Necri said as he looked up at the thing. It seemed afraid, so Necri tried to look as non-threatening as possible.
"We're not going to hurt you, honest!" he called out to the newcomer, whatever it was...

[Joining with Jimmy ] Jimmy watched Rain, Necri and the shadowy figure in the tree from where he was crouched under his cloak in such a way that he might look like a large boulder or small shrub - to any that can't see clearly in the dark, at least. He listened as well but even though it seemed they didn't want to harm whatever was in the tree he knew from experience that people often said stuff like that but sometimes did the opposite. Besides, he could see that Rain was Sirin and everyone knew that Sirin could be dangerous even if this one did look a bit scared. Further more, Necri clearly knew some form of magic his words and gestures had made that more than obvious even though nothing had seemed to happen.

Remaining silent, Rain continued to stand behind Necri. She was a little worried for him, but was slightly irked that she was no help to him as well. It also bothered her that the mysterious persona would not leave, but continue to sit above them lithely in the trees. The figure's agile speed was also something that worried her. She suddenly realized she had not drawn her sword. She pulled her short blade from it's leather sheath. She turned it in her hand a couple times before she found the right grip. She looked back up at the silhouette and stepped out from behind Necri. She did not notice the fourth life in the area.

"Come down, we're really quite harmless once you get to know us, if you're friendly," Necri said as he tried to climb up to the creature, but he had a feeling that that wouldn't work. This creature-or whatever it was, it was clearly shy and had an urge to stay away, but Necri knew that if they could befriend it, it could be a very good ally.
As he climbed, he thought he saw some kind of fabric near a bush or something, but he just shrugged his shoulders and ignored it, while focusing on his goal-finding the identity of this...thing.

Jimmy stayed where he was, almost deathly still as Necri climbed his way to the thing in the tree - what ever it was. Until the black clad man looked away, in any case at which point he moved in a sudden flash, much faster than a human could move.
Taking up a new position from which to watch Rain and Necri he once more resumed his rock like posture under his cloak for a moment before flipping it over and lying flat in a snow drift.

After Necri started his ascent into the tree, Rain noticed a small noise from nearby. She turned quickly on the spot, sniffing the air and scanning the area. She couldn't see anything, or anyone, but something smelled differently than the forest floor and Necri. She realized that the creature in the trees must have a odd scent, therefore she turned her attention upwards again.
"I'm not sure that's a good idea, Necri." Rain called up after him. The figure jumped again to another tree in the same abnormal way. She involuntarily jumped in surprise at the sudden movement, but started to walk underneath the mysterious someone's new location. Because she was paying little attention to her footwork, she tripped on a long mound on the ground.
[You guys are free to invent actions of the thing in the trees if you have a good idea, or you can invent what it is, as well.]

"It's not a bad one either," Necri replied as he reached out to the creature, but it just got further away. Necri reached further, but he lost his balance and slipped! As he fell to the ground, he hoped that something would stop his fall. He reached out his hand and...grabbed a branch!
"Phew, that was close," he said as he climbed back up so that he was on an even level with the thing. He didn't know what else to do-there was no reason to attack, as it didn't pose an immediate threat, but he couldn't just let it go!

Jimmy sprang up into a crouch when he was tripped over and almost in the same instant shoved Rain back with a strong two-handed push to her belly. "Ge'off!" He snapped though not loudly, then swiftly he tumbled backwards away from the Sirin - who still had her sword out - and in no more then seconds he was on his feet with a sword of his own in each hand.
Jimmy twirled his swords in an elaborate pattern and slipped into a ready stance, weight balanced over both feet and knees slightly bent, that would clearly give him the option of defending or pressing an attack - his left arm extended forward so the sword in that hand was pointing at Rain, his right arm slightly bent and the sword in that hand extending along his forearm and past his elbow in a reverse grip.
He could see that Rain didn't look to have anything valuable, except maybe her sword but he kept a close eye on her anyway perhaps making it clear that he could see perfectly well even though it was night. He quickly glanced up taking in details then flicked his attention back to the Sirin. "Whatever it is gots anythin' valuable, i's-mine. I saw it firs'." The youth in grey said, though it wasn't clear if he was saying this to Rain or Necri.

Rain was quite thoroughly taken back at the sudden whirl of movement. After she had been pushed away she quickly sprang to her feet, her sword held at the ready and her feet spread apart. She watched as this new-found person spun his swords and prepared to fight. She began to pace in a small circle about him, eying him carefully and choosing a weakest point to go for.
"We don't want to rob him," Rain said, taking a quick look at Necri in the trees, seeming to be still chasing the mysterious being, "We just want to know why he's staring us down." She narrowed her eyes for a second upon her challenger, and tightened her grip on her small sword.

"Hey, a new person!" Necri said as he jumped down to the ground. There wasn't much room between him and the ground anyway, so it was easy for him to get down without injury. As he walked over, he removed his hood from around his head.
"Hi, I'm Necri and this is Rain. Who're you?" Necri asked as he looked at the newcomer. He didn't seem threatening, just defensive...well, he hoped that he was right.

Jimmy snorted a bit at what Rain said, "Uh-huh, sure! Like I believe that." As the Sirin circled him he moved with her, stepping in a smaller circle almost on the spot and constantly shifting his stance. His swords shifted as well, in easy arcs never the same one pointing at her for more then a few seconds. This might suggest to a competent fighter that he'd be just as comfortable pressing an attack or blocking a blow with either hand. There was very little gap for Rain to go for considering his armour and the arcs he wove in the air with his blades.
When Necri jumped down from the tree he spun, stepped to one side, sheathed the sword in his right hand and unhooked the whip from his belt in what looked like one movement. He then stepped the other way, half turned and lashed the whip out and snagged her sword hand with it. By the end of the quick series of moves he was standing between Necri and Rain with the sword in his left hand pointed at the the former and the whip in his right hand snagged around the latter's sword hand in such a way as he could attempt to tug the weapon from her grip. "Greyhair... 'n' I sure aint sayin' nuthin more." He paused for a moment. "An' tha's close enough the both of yeh."

"Trying to steal from a girl, oh that's a hard one." She laughed, trying to look at Necri over her foe's head, "Yeah, now you're going to attack someone who's not even threatening you." She smirked at him, studying him critically at the same time. "I don't see a kitten around you could kill, unless that thing up there is." She jerked her head upwards, trying to avert his attention momentarily.
She switched sword-hands quickly, wincing as she did so. The whip had wrapped itself around her hand tightly, the small barbs digging into her flesh. Her coat of fur did some to protect her, but the pain was still distracting. Using her sword as a machete, she brought it down on the part of the whip not touching her hand. The added tension of the blow tightened the cord around her hand, and buried the metal deeper. She cried out in both pain and anger, as her effort did nothing to sever her from Greyhair.
