Wildfire rolled his eyes. More people? This was the last time he planned a trip based on the drunken ramblings of an old seaman...well, maybe the second last. As he listened to the newcomer's talk of how to get back, his eyes lit up. Two weeks ago? That'd put him well out of reach of that guy he borrowed the boat from! Sweet!
Still, as he looked around at the others on the island, he knew he couldn't just walk away, even though he seemed to be the most mobile. "Can't just go and leave you to take credit about finding this place," he said in Scott's general direction as he began to wander around and pull out broken arrows from the fallen. They weren't much, but they could be fashioned into crude splints for those in their group with broken bones and other such injuries...if there were big enough leaves to wrap around them.
"So, who are you anyway?" Wildfire asked the newcomer as he came back with an handful of broken arrows that were still halfway usable for splints. Wildfire sat down and paired up each arrow with one that was about the same size as he waited for the newcomer's reply to what he thought was a reasonable question.

"I am... a member of the village," said the man, quite cautiously. His eyes darted about the surroundings as he spoke. "I'm afraid I cannot say anymore. This boy before me is almost healed of his wounds, but he will need something for that broken leg. If none of you will take him, I will bring him to the village until he is well, and then we will send him back to where we came from." He drew some bandages from a small bag attached to his belt and looked to Wildfire for a splint of some kind.
"Wait," Scott said. "Did you just heal him? I didn't see anything!"
"And I can heal you if you like, but again, I cannot mend broken bones." The commoner stood and turned to Eric, looking him up and down as though inspecting his wounds, but not moving near him. As though only just hearing Scott, he muttered, "All of you must vow to never speak of what you saw here to anyone -- I mean, in regards to the gate and my appearance. The monsters and the ruins you may speak of freely. If you do not make this promise, you cannot leave this place." His tone was suddenly quite sharp, but he didn't have any visible weapons on him.

Lucian opened his eyes slowly and blinked a few times apparently returned to consciousness. He moved a little and winced and so decided to stay where he was. He looked up at the others somewhat confused, especially the strange commoner who was standing near him.
Like previous times when the others had been talking he watched their faces closely. He just stayed quiet and let them talk though. He had no clear idea of where he was two weeks ago and he wasn't about to let any of these common folk know that, besides, one of them was looking after him and apparently healing him - finally.
He couldn't hear the 'native' man's tone but there was something that seemed to let the young noble know that he was very serious, what ever he was saying. "Ih whone tell anyone." He said in his strange voice.

Eric nodded in agreement to Lucian's statement. "I shall not speak of this to anyone." He said nothing in regards to healing, but gestured that this man could do so. He looked around to Scott and Wildfire, and Lucian. "Where aare you from?" he asked. The past several hours had done wonders for his slowly vanishing vocabulary.

"I won't tell anyone you were here if you don't tell anyone I was here," Wildfire said as he handed the newcomer two pieces of arrow that were of about the right size. Natrually, Wildfire kept the arrowheads and flight arrows to the side for later use.
He wasn't expecting to find a healer out here, much less someone that could pull off such a swift and subtle heal, but for the sake of the two younger members of this motley party, he was certainly greatful for his timely appearance.
It was about then that Eric's question finally made its way to Wildfire. "Where am I from? East Riiga, but I was just outside a small town in Central two weeks ago...the same one that I borrowed that boat from. I'd rather be back at central, but not if I have to try and avoid that place...maybe I should stay here, in case there's more of those beasts hanging around," he replied. He would have jumped into that portal the first chance he got if he was alone, but he had a feeling that he should do something about those folang critters he saw before.

The man gave a cheerful smile and the aura of menace washed away as quickly as it had appeared. He took a few steps towards Eric and struck a peculiar pose as though trying to watch every inch of Eric's body at once, like a lion watching its prey. Eric would have felt the healing process begin.
"I'm from North Tasif, but I was on Curin two weeks ago," Scott said to Eric.
The commoner then proceeded to make a splint for Lucian and helped him to his feet, holding him securely until he was sure the boy could stand on his own. Scott came and helped him nonetheless. "Now you must make your choices, for I must observe all that goes through the yellow mouth. Who will enter and who will not?"
"I want to go through," Scott said. "But that's depending on what these three do. If I'm needed somewhere else, I'll go there instead." The prospect of a new life excited him. If he chose not to enter it, he could basically be a whole new person in a whole new place.
The man nodded and looked to the others, seeming impatient. The gate continued to hum mildly.

"Fedailim, nordth nidom," Lucian answered Eric, the time not having helped his voice. He put some experimental weight on his leg but he was careful about doing so and kept a hold of the strange commoner, then Scott when he took over. "Two weegs ago I fing they had me zomewhere near Leodyne."
The young Nobel's caution about putting weight on his splinted leg might indicate to some that he wasn't sure he'd be able to make it far without help. "Idf zomeone helbs thereds a rewart."

The young savage stood up and grinned a little as he felt the pain all over his body recede. Except of course his arm. "Could I get a, um, what the unhearing one has?" he asked, pointing to Lucian. "And if there's a village, maybe they could give us a boat," he reasoned. "Once back to mainland it would be easy to find your homes."

"A splint? Yeah, looks like you broke your arm pretty bad there, wonder why I didn't notice that before?" Wildfire said as he found two arrow shafts that looked about the right length for a small splint. It wasn't much, but when the newcomer put some bandages on it, he had a good feeling that it would hold...well, he hoped it would, at least.
"Somehow, I'm not sure we'd just be given a boat. It's never that easy," Wildfire said as he picked up a small, nearly completely flat stone and began to examine it closely, to keep himself focused.

The commoner watched them talk amongst themselves with a faint smile and a slight tilt of the head. Meanwhile, he took Wildfire's offered shafts and made a splint for Eric in no time at all.
"The boat we have is enough to take you to Temanea, which is northwest of here. If that is not suitable, your only other option is to step through the portal. I'm afraid there is nothing else we can aid you with. I apologise. What will it be? You must choose quickly. The mouth will soon close of its own accord."
Scott came in, "I can take Lucian back to... Phedailin, was it? I really don't care where I end up anymore." He rubbed his sore head. "What about you two?" He looked to Wildfire and Eric. They still seemed unsure on the matter.

Lucian looked at the native, tapped his own chest a few times then gestured at the gate, perhaps indicating he intended to go through no matter what. The young noble then smiled and nodded to Scott, "Thang yew." He then turned to watch Eric and Wildfire to see what these two would decide though he occasionally looked at the native or the gateway.

Eric shrugged, keeping his injured arm in a cradled position. "I'll go wherever I'm wanted. I'm not going through the portal though. I could go with you Scott if he were going by boat, I get the feeling Wildfire likes being his own," Eric said. "Don't want Lucian though. He's weak and scared."

Wildfire sighed. Sure, he liked to be alone, but the way that Eric said it, he made it sound almost like a bad thing!
"Normally, I'd just pop right through that portal, but I can't say no to any form of boat travel...besides, I don't think it's in anyone's best intrest to walk through something that looked like it was about to swallow all of Riiga whole," he said as he looked up at the newcomer again.
"Besides, if there's more of those Folang whatzits hanging around, I'd like to get another shot at them," he added as he removed his boot, which revealed the now no longer bleeding injury that he had incurred. He did have a lot of other scrapes and knocks, but they weren't worth worrying about compared to this...thing on his leg!

"Then it is settled," said the commoner, barely letting Wildfire finish talking. "The Guard and the noble will pass through the gate, and the other two will return to the village with me. Step through now, please, before it closes."
Scott nodded and led Lucian into the gate. They stepped into it from one side but did not come out the other. A strange buzzing sensation filled the grove and then it died out. The gatae began to shrink and spit strange wisps of light, and then it closed in on itself and utter silence flowed over the remaining figures.
"The village is this way," the commoner said, pointing behind him seemingly randomly. A smile swam onto his face and he looked from Eric to Wildfire.
[Scott and Lucian have left the thread. If you two want to keep going and proceed to the village, keep posting and I'll play along. Otherwise, this thread is over! Woot]
