Eric sat down on the bed and laid back. "How does he know you? And why was he talking funny? And why'd he smell funny?" he asked. Questions were probably the majority of his speech right now. They were spinning in his head. He'd spent all his life on a tiny island and missed so much. "I wonder if there's people who could make me look a little more normal. You know, make my hair shorter, that sort of thing."

"He spoke and smelt funny because he'd been drinking something with alcohol in it. Anything with alcohol in it's bad for you. Makes you act funny if you drink too much. Also, it's against the law to sell it to someone younger than me...I think. As for how he knew me, I'd rather not talk about that for now. Let's just say that he took a lot of things that didn't belong to him and betrayed a lot of people," he said as he put the last of the arrows on the ground. Only forty, counting the two that he had before he landed on that island...for him, having that many arrows was not bad, but it was not exactly great either.
"As for people to make you look more 'normal,' I'm sure there are. I'd bet every last arrow that there's a barber shop in town somewhere-that's a place where you can get your hair cut...but we'd have to pay and I'm all out of money..." Wildfire added as he reached for where his money bag would normally sit. Oh, right, the boat thing, he thought as he remembered how the folang had smashed up his boat back on the island. He could still walk, so he knew that he could get it back, somehow.

Eric listened to the archer's explanation and noted that alcohol was bad. He had so many questions to ask, but he was yawning and before he could ask, he'd fallen asleep. His first night in a proper bed. --- He woke early the next morning. The sun was just starting to rise and much of the town was still shadowed and dark. He got out of bed and grabbed his spear before heading downstairs and out onto the cold cobble stone streets. "I wonder where Cole went," he mused quietly to himself.

Cole was confused. The boy wanted to spend time with him, yet he didn't follow Cole out of the tavern. Had he misheard? Was he meant to be waiting inside? After some minutes, he looked in through the window but there was no sign of Eric.
"Typical," Cole muttered to himself. He turned around and walked out on one of the piers, taking a little while to admire the setting sun, and then he returned home.
======
The next morning Cole rose early, and had already gone for his usual walk about the nearest paddock. He had no duties that day, so he decided to get some milk. He greeted the farmer at the market stall silently, and paid for the milk silently. When he went to head back home, a thought slid into his mind. He was supposed to do something yesterday. What was it?
"The medicine!" he cried, bursting into a sprint down the market street as people were just opening their stalls.

As Wildfire finished off taking inventory of everything that he had (and everything that he hadn't), he looked back over at Eric. There was so much of his sisters that he could see in that kid it was almost scary. He walked over and did his best to cover the kid in warm blankets that were lying at the end of the bed, to keep him safe and warm.
==============
The next morning, Wildfire woke up rather late. As he looked around, he saw that Eric was gone! "Blood and ashes, where has he gone now?" he asked himself as he threw his clothes, armour and cloak on in what would seem like the blink of an eye to anyone else and bolted out, leaving his bow and arrows behind, along with the dagger...
"Eric? Eric?" he called out as he ran down the street. He stopped as he almost ran into Cole! That's the kid from the other day! he thought as he turned and watched Cole run off on what appeared to be a very important errand.

[If Cole woke up early and Wildfire woke up late, how can Wildfire run into him?]
Cole ducked under Wildfire's swinging arm instinctively, and then he spun around and stopped. He stared and frowned for a moment, with a, 'what the hell was that for', sort of look, but he clearly had something else on his mind. He simply turned back around and kept running without a word. He stumbled in the medicine house and obtained what he went to buy, and then he proceeded home at a much calmer pace.
On his way back, he spotted Eric across the street. Then he remembered that, not only was he ignored the other day, but he was never given his cape back! Fists clenched, he went to approach Eric but a bustling carriage stopped him. It stopped in the middle of the street and two men jumped off to unload some crates.
"Hey!" he called out to Eric, trying to get his attention as he went around the back of the carriage.

Eric looked around at the sound of Cole's voice and saw his distinctive hair just over the top of a bunch of wagons and then saw him coming around them. He dashed over. "Hi Cole," he said. "Are you good?"

((Maybe it was earlier than Wildfire thought or something, I don't know!))
When Wildfire heard Eric's voice, he quickly whipped his whole body around and ran over. "Eric, there you are! Where the hell did you run off to?" he asked as he resisted the urge to smack the kid upside the head, which probably wouldn't do either of them any good. It was about then that he noticed that Cole was standing with them.
"Oh, also sorry about before," he said as he bowed slightly to Cole, mostly out of habit. He knew that look that Cole had given him before. It wasn't exactly his favourite...

"Where were you yesterday?" Cole asked Eric. "You said you wanted to be with me, but you never followed me. Then you kept my cape overnight, and you probably slept in it, too. Now you're talking to me as though nothing happened."
Wildfire interrupted at a complicated moment. Cole wasn't raising his voice, and he wasn't losing his temper, but the words he was using and his tone of voice were both quite sharp. Cole scowled at Wildfire but said nothing to him.

"I didn't know you wanted me to follow," Eric replied to Cole. "And I fell asleep." he turned to Wildfire. "And what's with that? I don't need you to watch me." He turned back to Cole. "I can go and grab your cloak. Just don't move, I need to know where you'll be." And with that he dashed back along the streets, into the inn and up to the room. He'd taken one of the keys before he'd left and he used it now. He found Cole's cloak laying beside a bed. He quickly picked it up and brushed it off. He noted how soft it was and that it almost seemed like it was made specially. Not like his clothes which were rough and he knew must've been made quickly and with little care.
He turned around and dashed out of the room and came to Cole, handing his cloak back to him. "Here it is," he panted.

"That's not the point. Until I find somewhere safe for you to live, you're my-" but before Wildfire could finish his sentance, Eric had already started talking to Cole and rushed off. What Wildfire couldn't stand more than being ignored like that was the stare that Cole was giving him right then.
"Could you not do that? It's bad enough you remind me of me at your age..." he muttered. He didn't really care if Cole heard him or not, but as he looked up at the sky, part of him wished that he had, if only for a chance to get to know Cole better.
However, Eric soon came back with the cloak. It still seemed to be in a decent state, which was more than could be said for Wildfire's.

Cole took the cape and looked over it carefully.
"Thank you," he said sternly. He opened his mouth as though he was about to say something else, but he didn't. He didn't stand around to wait for idle conversation, either. He just began to walk down the street towards the docks.

Eric followed Cole closely, walking beside him. "What's a word people say when they've done something wrong?" Eric asked him. "Cause that's what I am. I didn't mean to fall asleep." He hefted his spear and remembered his thought from earlier. "Cole, do you know a place I could get something to carry my spear in? Or get some different clothes? These are kind of too loose."

"Well, see you around," Wildfire said to nobody but the wind. In a way he was glad to get rid of Eric, but he couldn't help but feel that something was wrong-his bow! He'd completely forgotten his bow!
"Son of a..." he said to himself as he dashed back to the inn and without a second thought, climbed up a stack of precarious boxes and back in the window! For once, he was glad that the windows were created imperfectly. Because of that, he managed to get in easily with a few tricks that he had picked up. Luckily, everything was there, as it had been.
"Phew, nearly lost you guys," he said as he began to reattach his armour piece by piece. As he put on his armguards, something small and shiny fell out!
"Hmm, looks like I wasn't flat broke after all," he said as he flipped the object-a silver coin in the air. With that, he'd at least be able to buy a few arrows and maybe half a hunk of stale bread. Still, it was better than nothing and that was just what he wanted out of life. With nothing else to do in this town, he picked up one of his remaining ordinary arrows and twirled it around his fingers while walking down the stairs. He gave a few friendly nods to the few people hanging around inside and walked out.
"Well, new day, new adventure. I think I'll go...this way," he said as he looked down what to some would seem like an ordinary dirt road that loosely followed the beach, but to Wildfire it was another day to live free!
((And with that I dutifully bow out.))

Cole turned to watch Wildfire depart. There was something about his mannerisms that made Cole pause and watch. He wasn't sure what it was, though, and he didn't want to think about it. He only wanted to think about what he believed was worth his time, and since he was convinced he would never see Wildfire again, he turned back to the sea.
Then Eric's questions reached him, and he turned the other way, catching Eric with a sudden stern gaze. "I think you mean you're sorry," Cole said. "When you're sorry, that means you're apologetic and regretful, but you shouldn't be. You just made a mistake. I can live with that..."
He looked back out to the sea. They were circling the town's seafront counter-clockwise, gradually heading back away from the ocean.
"You could visit my house," Cole suggested. "I have old clothes that would probably fit you, and mum could find something for your spear. I need to bring her this, anyway." He flashed the medicine for barely half a second and began to climb some steps onto a higher street.
