"I spent most of my life on a tiny island and I haven't started any fights," Eric blurted out. He adjusted the cloak again. "What's a 'sailor'?" he asked. He hadn't bothered his attention with Daveth. It made no difference to him what the young man did. "And those big stone things. Around the town... walls? Why are there people on them?"

[Elcheane doesn't have walls, but I'll play along]
"A sailor is someone who spends most of his life on the sea," Cole answered, looking about idly as though he was reading the answers from a book hidden away in his mind. "Sometimes they use boats to catch fish or to trade goods with other towns near the shore further away. Because they spend so long out on the sea, when they come to land, they usually want to celebrate their time here, so they drink and create trouble."
Finally, they stepped onto the stone of the port area, and Cole turned left, hoping everyone would follow. They headed across a raised walkway, and a little way before them was a large building facing the sea. This was presumably the tavern Cole spoke of. He said nothing else.

"Hmm?" Daveth murmered then blinked slightly at Wildfire in an 'Oh, you're talking to me?' kind of way. "Well," he continued after a slight pause, "it depends what it's mixed with and how you prepare it. By it's self it just irritates the skin a bit." He held out his hands though there was no apparent sign of irritation suggesting that he might be used to it. "It can be useful for purging toxins that cause an upset stomach." He grinned and chuckled. "Mixed with another plant and made into a tea it makes people throw up, or it helps... 'Going'. The exact effects vary a bit but the results are more or less the same."
Aside from answering Wildfire's question about the weed, he just kept following Cole and Eric.
"It works on animals too." He adds apparently randomly.

Wildfire raised an eyebrow. "I see...I think I've had a few 'run ins' with that plant in the past," he said as he absentmindedly scratched at his head. He also brought the hood of his cloak up over his head. He thought that was why people were staring and to some extent, it did stop them.
"Yep, nothing like waking up in a pile of horse sick," he said to himself as the four stopped in front of a tavern. It looked incredibly comfortable, compared to Wildfire's usual living standards.
"Thanks for showing us the way Cole...if I had something to give you as payment..." Wildfire said as he bobbed down to about Cole's eye level, even though he was still an inch or two taller.

"So that's where we're heading?" Eric asked. He looked down at himself. "Hey we need to get me clothes." He fingered the cloak he had and marveled a little at its softness. "This is nice. Whoever made it is good at what they do," he said. "Wish I had something like this."

Cole stopped and met eyes with Wildfire. "Don't worry about it. Anyone else would have given you directions to this place." Then he turned his attention to Eric. "Thank you. My mother made it. You can meet her tomorrow, if you like." He glanced at Wildfire and Daveth, suggesting the invite extended to them, too. "Perhaps she can make you something, Eric. She likes making gifts for people. Oh, and you will find a shirt and pants in the drawers of any decent tavern room. It's the standard around here. I'll... go and make sure Lurah has some rooms free."
Then he entered the tavern, most likely wanting the other three to follow. He said something to the woman at the counter, who greeted Cole with a slightly above-average smile, and then she glanced towards the door, expecting the people Cole had mentioned to enter.

Daveth followed Cole into the tavern with a nod and a smile to the other two. Once inside he headed for the counter as well gracing the woman there with a nod and a slightly warm smile he said nothing though, apparently distracted for a moment by the smells from the kitchen much like the small furry animal that had once more poked it's head out of his shirt and was busily sniffing the air. The youth chuckled and pulled the animal free keeping a reasonably firm grip behind it's front legs as he held it up near his face and cooed at it a bit. "I know, it smells good..." Then Daveth looked to the woman at the counter. "I hope you don't mind pets, I'll find somewhere else if you do." As he said this he took out a long leash with his free hand and fitted his furry companion with a small harness that was clipped to the leash. By this he seemed to imply he wasn't about to let the little critter go wandering around on it's own.

Wildfire followed soon after Cole and Daveth. Since he was inside now, he felt confident enough to let down his hood, in hopes that the patrons of the inn wouldn't stare too much. He gave a nod and a smile in the direction of the inkeeper, who looked like she'd just gotten out of bed, but still just the way she was supposed to be.
As Wildfire looked around the tavern, he couldn't help but notice that it looked very similar to other places that he had stayed in when he could afford to. Just by guessing, he assumed that the beds would be lumpy, but they would do. All he really wanted to do was relax for a while and this town looked like the place where he could do it, that much was certain.

Eric gulped before entering. This was his first contact with a large number of people in his entire life. The village on the island had been large, but they'd been somewhat similar to him. These townspeople were so different to him. Of course he suspected he looked weird to them. Him with his wild, tangled hair, face paint and spear. He screwed up his courage and followed Wildfire into the tavern.
The moment he entered dozens of eyes turned to him. He could hear whispers among the crowd. His keen hearing could pick up some of them. "What is he?" someone was saying. "How'd a dirty savage even get into town?" All the eyes staring made Eric feel uncomfortable. Suddenly he tripped. He looked back and saw a man snickering, pulling his foot back under his table. The boy hefted his spear in response, causing some people to return to their business.
Eric turned to his companions and hurried towards them. The moment he was near them he tried to make himself as inconspicuous as possible. A feat his wild appearence did not make easy.

Lurah gave Daveth the same smile she gave to Cole. "I trust you're going to keep it under control," she said solemnly. "It's not my responsibility what the cooks would do to it if they found it in the kitchen. "Now, to the rooms. Do all three of you want rooms? Cole tells me the one with the weasel can buy his own rooms, but you other two can share a room for free. I think I could afford to let one go under the books for one night. What do ya say to that?" She didn't seem fazed by the tribal youth beneath the purple cloak.
Cole had left the counter and was talking to someone nearby in the uniform of The Guards. He glanced at his companions out of the corner of his eye on occasion.

Daveth unhooked a pouch from his belt. "Yes, I can though one of the smaller ones will be more then enough thank you." He untied the pouch while the 'weasel' climbed up his arm and onto his shoulder then into his backpack, which he still hadn't removed. "How much?"
He then glanced to Wildfire, "If you're short I might be able to spot you a little."

"I think I can afford a free night," Wildfire replied with a smirk as he quickly searched through his cloak for his money holder...which he didn't find! Well, he guessed that he'd just have to take up some work on the next chance he got, or sell something...of which he had very little, but he figured something would come along that would solve his problems. It always did.
When Wildfire looked over at Cole, he noticed the kid was talking to some guards. Wildfire quickly turned around and froze. How did he...no, that's just silly, he's probably just talking to friends of his or something, yeah, that's it, he thought as he began to relax. He hoped none of the others noticed how he reacted to the guards. After all, it's not like he did anything truly terrible, right?
Right?

Eric said nothing. He felt almost as if he were in a cage. Though by now most of the people had gone back to their business. Still he couldn't throw off the suspicion that he was still under watch. He spotted Cole talking with some men and noted that they wore similar outfits to Scott. The only real difference he could see was they were in better condition. His curiosity getting the better of him, he walked over to the group. He wasn't really paying attention to their conversation. "You guys look like Scott," he said bluntly.

"Five gold will get you a room for one night," she said to Daveth. "Thank you. I'll give you room 2C. Your friends can use 2D."
Cole didn't look at the others, but the conversation he was having with the guards seemed lighthearted. They weren't looking at Cole's companions, either, until Eric approached them. When he said they looked like Scott, they seemed short of words.
"Scott? Commander Lucas Scott?" asked one, now looking at Eric with the most bewildered of expressions. "He went missing weeks ago! He was sent to Curin with a troop and has vanished. Where did you see Scott, boy?"
The other guard was visually inspecting Daveth and Wildfire. Cole stood to the side, feeling a little powerless.

Daveth paid for his room, which lightened his money pouch slightly. He didn't seem to mind, though he did seem to think for a moment and count on his fingers. "I just hope the customers are generous tomorrow." He said more to himself then anyone else as he turned to the Guards and Eric who seemed to have got their interest and attention.
He watched for a moment then walked over to a table and took a seat then slipped off his pack and set it on the floor under the table. He knew the name Lucas Scott but that was it.
