Nari stopped walking and glanced up at the greenery overhead. His breath came out as wisps of pale air, though that forest wasn't particularly cold. The sun shone down through the dying leaves and fell down around him.
"Hmph," he sighed, looking around again. In his hand he held the leather canteen that he had found on the ground. Normally he would've left it where it was but it had water in it and someone might need it.
"Hello?" he called out. There still came no response. "Maybe I should leave it here..."

Aquis was walking through the forests and just enjoying nature, in a sort of trance as he was in touch with it. He grew slightly irritated when a voice cut through his thoughts and he turned and went towards the voice. H peered out from behind a tree and saw what the creature was. "Looks non-human. Perhaps he won't mind what I am." the cat boy said to himself and stepped out. "Did you yell?" he asked flatly.

Nari spun around and stared at the cat boy before him. He almost dropped the canteen as he thought it was a human. Most humans hate Sirins and Nari learn to be very cautious of them.
"Uhhmm, yeah," he said quietly, a little shocked at the foreign figure before him. He held forth the canteen. "Is this yours?"

Aquis approached cautiously and took the canteen, looking it over. "Don't believe so. I don't recall carrying a canteen. Might know who it does belong to though."
He turned his gaze back to Nari. "And what are you? You look like an Ildemin. Are you?" Aquis' voice was slightly hopeful, instead of flat as usual. Hopeful that he might of met another like him.

Nari tilted his head. "I was about to ask you the same question. You look sorta like a Sirin, but then you're not. You're more human. Oh, I'm a Sirin. I'm not an Ildam... Ildu... whatever you said."
He clipped the canteen to his belt as it wasn't Aquis's and walked towards the other boy slowly, looking up and down at him.
"You're not human, are you?"

"Do I look human?" Aquis asked. "Nah I'm a Ildamin. Judging from your appearence I guess we're 'in the same boat as it were. Do humans hate you for being different from them?"

Nari nodded, "Yeah, of course they do. Humans are stupid and simple-minded... things. I was worried this canteen would belong to one. Well, maybe it still does. You can keep that thing if you want. It's not like I need it."
He paused and looked around the forest awkwardly. Something seemed to bother him, but it wasn't Aquis.
"Oh, my name is Nari."

"Aquis." the Ildemin mumbled. Now that the mystery was solved, he was back inside himself again. Aquis looked at the canteen. "Can I have that?" he asked as he knelt by a tree and inspected something. "Hmm that's odd."

Nari just watched Aquis, not sure what to make of this odd character. He looked over both shoulders nervously.
"Uhh, what are you doing?" he asked. "I didn't pee there. I swear."

(was that necessary?)
"Perhaps it would've helped the tree if you had." Aquis said offhandedly. "This tree is dying, yet there's nothing wrong with it. It's perfectly healthy actually. No disease, no lack of sun, air or water. It's just dying." Aquis stood and moved over to another tree. "And this one's in the same state."
Slowly Aquis checked each of the trees, all were dying and all for no apparent reason. "Got any ideas as to why this might be happening Nari?"

[It was a joke. I had to make my post longer]
Nari shook his head. "I have no idea. Where I live, the trees are covered in snow. They appear dead but stay alive underneath. These trees are different and I don't know what they're like. Is this... whole forest dying?"

Aquis nodded. "And there's no reason why. It's... very painful." he said as he inspected the trees. "I can't understand them, they're so weak. We gotta find some that are alive. Perhaps they'll be able to tell me what's going on."

"Wait," Nari said. "You... can talk to trees?" He stepped back, confused and cautious. "Are you a mage? I don't like mages..."

Aquis looked back. "Yes I am something of a mage. And yes I can talk to trees. All comes from living your life in the middle of the forest."
He turned back around. "And what's wrong with mages? Do we frighten you? Are you gonna be just like a human and run away from that which you don't understand?"

Nari didn't respond. He looked like he had something he wanted to say but for the time being he kept his mouth shut. He never liked arguing about anything and knew better than to blurt out anything that came to his mind. Instead, he walked to the tree Aquis was at and placed his hand on it. He gazed up into the canopy above.
"Which ones aren't dying?" he asked quietly.
