[Continued from Seeking Able-Bodied Men in Elcheane]
Jonathan Enos stopped walking once he had passed the border of Elcheane's farms and put his hands to his hips. He looked up at the sky briefly and then turned around so the others could catch up.

Alex was first to catch up, walking quickly but at a steady pace. He stood silently, waiting for further instructions. No talk, no movement, and scarcely blinking, fixing Enos with an empty stare.

The other two [it was two, right?] soldiers caught up and Enos began to explain the mission to them.
"I said it was a scouting mission, and it sort of is, but first off I need to explain something. For those of you who haven't heard, The Enemy is making moves again. Subtle moves, mind you, but still moves. This means we may encounter... something. Hopefully, that won't be the case."
He looked from one to the other slowly, giving each a serious look. "We actually have a soldier reported missing, and the last time anyone saw him was just outside the border here. The farmers told me this. We'll split into two groups. Since Alex is youngest, he'll team up with me. You other two are more experienced so it balances out. We're going north. You two can go south. If you find anything, come look for us and we'll do the same."
The other two saluted and walked away and Enos looked to Alex for objections.

Silence. That was all Alex gave. He may of had one or two objections. But they were unimportant. He was waiting for Enos to begin moving. As for this 'Enemy' he actually had no clue what Enos was talking about.

Enos began to head slightly northward, assuming Alex would catch up.
"We're looking for anything out of the ordinary," Enos said. "Perhaps part of his uniform, or signs of struggle in the grass or dirt, or something he may have dropped. He's been missing for four days and has made no attempt to make his position known. This leads me to believe he may have been... attacked."

"Killed you mean." Alex said as he strode beside Enos. His senses were all wide open. IF anybody, or anything out of the ordinary came near, he'd be ready.

"Killed, yeah, possibly," Enos said.
He scanned the horizon and then the surrounding area. To the north were more mountains, blueish in the clear sky. Forests rolled down their feet, gradually thinning out and turning into hills of grass all the way down south past the main road to the sea. Everything looked completely normal. That made Enos worry.
"Does something look outta the ordinary to you?" he asked Alex.

Alex remained silent. He knew what Enos was getting at, but was preferring just to keep silent. He spoke when he was ready. "No, everything looks ordinary. And that's what's out of the ordinary."
He shut himself up again. His suspicions he kept to himself.

Enos suddenly looked up into the clear sky and remained there for a few minutes. He then looked back down at the ground, and afterwards, he looked over towards the mountains. Slowly, he fell over as though he had been turned to stone. Two needles stuck out of his back. From behind nearby bushes jumped three small figures coated in thick fur and wielding crude axes.
[If you haven't already done so, check out the Combat Rules. These creatures aren't very strong, but they're not to be taken lightly]
They neared him defensively and then one ran at him, swinging its axe wildly.

Alex reacted swiftly, drawing his sword and leaping forwards. The blade flashed as he brought it in a downwards arc, aimed to slice right through both creatures.

The nearest one was killed with a clean cut, and the other two suddenly backed away. They split up and shuffled around Alex, one on his left and one on his right, trying to make him turn his back to one of them. One drew a throwing axe and flung it for Alex's arm.

Alex ducked and the axe flew over his head and straight towards the other of the creatures. Alex himself rolled and came up near the axe thrower with his blade aimed for its chest.

The sword impaled the creature and killed it quicklt. The final creature, being a coward, ran away into the bushes again. It was just Alex and Enos, who was lying still in the grass.

Alex sheathed his sword and walked over to Enos and pulled the darts from him. "Are you okay?" he asked, wondering if Enos was still conscious.

Enos woke up moments later, moaning deeply. He opened his eyes and sat up, seeming relatively unhurt.
"What... What happened?" he muttered. "My back stings..."
