Guide to New Riiga Forums

Hey everyone.

We’ve got a massive announcement!

The new Riiga text-based role-playing forums are up and running!
You can now find us at www.riiga.net so bookmark it right now, lest you forget!

New members are encouraged to join and create as per normal.

Existing users are advised to contact me on this forum via this link: landofriiga.proboards.com/index.cgi?action=pmsend&to=admin . Please, DO NOT create a new account if you are a member of this forum. All the old information is already there. Simply let me know if you want to claim your new account. I will email you a temporary password for your account. Log in, and change your password to whatever you please. That’s how easy it is! Also, we strongly recommend you add a valid email address to your profile so that you can receive emails if someone posts on your stories.

Existing users will need to tweak their characters and submit them all for submission once more. So, go through each of your characters you'd like to continue using and fix them up as best you can. This is because character templates have been revamped. You will need to submit them for admin approval again. Hopefully, no significant changes will be made to your favourite characters! Keep scrolling down to read a short guide to using the Character Creation page.

Please DO NOT create a Non-player Character (NPC) as these are not yet functional.

Is the new character form confusing? Follow this simple guide for all your answers:

Name: Your character’s first name, full name, or nickname.

Level: Can be no higher than your member rank. Essentially, your character’s level dictates their faction rank, and is also used as an approximate guide to their power and strength.

Race: The character’s race. Limited by Level.

Subrace: Humans only. These are races of humans, and they affect your character’s appearance, and possibly their history.

Location: Limited by Level, and should be used as a guide for Race. This is where your character lives, or where they spend the majority of their time. For more information on these areas, go to the story creation page here riiga.net/stories/add and browse the known world.

Age: Influenced by race. Potentially determines their Faction Rank or Profession.

Faction: The faction which your character is a member of. Select the blank space to choose no faction.

Faction Rank: How high your character is in the particular faction. Limited by Level and Age.

Profession: Your character’s profession, job, or business. This is superficial and does not directly affect any other data. If, for some reason, there is no way to describe what your character does (even children can be Citizens), then simply type “None”.

Description: Describe your character’s appearance, personality, arsenal, and anything else you think is appropriate.

BY DEFAULT, the Description contains all the data which was in your original character's profile. The name, age, gender, class, etc. do not need to be listed here. That data is only there so that no information was lost. Once you add all of those aspects to the right fields (name to the Name field, class to the Faction field, etc.) then you may remove all of the superfluous data and just describe your character in this section as per normal.

People are still submitting characters with all the default information from the old profile completely within the description. You do not need to have all that information there. There are proper fields for it now.

History: Give a brief (or detailed) overview of your character’s history. Administrators are available to help you create a fitting history for your character.

As part of the data transferral, some of the stories are a little mixed up. This section is designed to help you fix your stories.

At the bottom of every story, there is a list of characters and members involved or mentioned within. If your icon/name is greyed out, it means you were in the story at some point but are now considered inactive. If you wish to still participate within the story, click Join.

If the icon/name of your character(s) is/are greyed out, and they are supposed to be active within this story, click the + button across from your avatar and select the right character. However, they may not appear in this list, and this is because they are inactive elsewhere. To find out where they are active, go to the profile of your character and find the story in which they are active. You will be able to tell they’re active because their icon won’t be greyed out and there will be a minus sign in the corner. Click this to deactivate them within that story, and then go back to their active story and add them using the + button there. They should appear in the list.

As well as this, in some situations, the final post of a thread is missing. If this missing post is yours, simply copy the text from the same place on the old forums and paste it in a new post in the new site, if it’s your turn.

The Posting Order in a story is done automatically; it determines the existing order and tries to cycle that same order unless you leave the story.
