Blaike flung himself behind a boulder as a dreaful explosion went off just where he had been standing, throwing dust and stone about. He peered over the large rock at the keep just up the hill now.
"Come on!" he yelled at the top of his lungs. "Is that all ye got? My nanna could'a waddled outta the way from that there blast!"
"Err, should ye be taunting 'em like that?" asked a fellow pirate behind him. "I mean there fort is signitaf... sigficani... much smaller than ours but they still got cannons, don't they?"
"Don't be a coward," Blaike said, gripping his cutlass. "They'll run outta ammunition at this rate and then we can get 'em, easy! We just nee--"
A shot was fired from behind the jungle trees and it collided with the rock they were behind, shattering it and sending sharp fragments out. Blaike and his men were thrown back, some instantly wounded, and the second-mate himself suffering a thin chunk of stone through his lower leg. They lay in the bushes they were thrown in. More explosions went off in the distance and rumbled all around.
Blaike cussed numerous times under his breath and clasped his leg.
"How we gonna get back now, eh?" asked that pirate.
"I'm thinking..." Blaike snapped back. "Shut yer pie-hole."

Jeff the pillager rolled over and leant onto his side, his body acheing. "Errrr, you call that a cannon yer stupid pigs!" Jeff cried out. "This is gonna hurt in the mornin." Jeff turned to Blaike, lying there. "Whatever we do, Blaike, we should act quickly. Soon as they find out we aint dead, they'll kill us for sure."
Jeff stayed on the ground, low, trying not to move too much and stay within the rubble from the boulder. "We might 'ave to carry ye back, eh."

[Joining with little Sil]
Sil crept slowly and carefully up the beach, blinking his inner eyelids to keep his eyes moist. Up ahead he could hear the pirates and the whistling cannon balls, more the latter then the former. The small Ildemin crouched, watched and listened for a break in the Cannon fire, then staying crouched low snuck up behind a large boulder that he hoped was just out of range.
It wasn't the smartest idea, he'd been caught by the pirates doing this kind of thing before, but he was curious and inquisitive. He'd already spent forever trying to work out what the pirates were up to from the safety of the water and he'd finally told himself he had to get closer.

Blaike nodded at Jeff. "Aye, maybe. I'm guessing after the shouts we just hollered they'll be sending them scouts down 'ere to chop us up... But we aint goin' down without a fight!"
"Ye just said we should carry ya back though!" one of the other men said. "Make up yer mind. It's either all of us or none of us."
"Right-o," Blaike said. "Howzabout I try standing first. I might just need someone to hold while I limp back down."
"I'll do that," the pirate said, and they both stood with Blaike holding his shoulder on the side his bad leg was. "Easy, aye?"
"Aye. See anyone coming yet, Jeff? The cannons have dulled."

Jeff stood and brushed some of the dirt off himself, looking back at the keep.. "Nye. They're prolly still hidin' behind their walls with their cannons." Jeff chuckled to himself. "Lets move on down to my ship before they do decide to run out with them useless scouts, Aye?"
They arrived safely at Jeff's ship in not long time. "Take her out will ya?" Jeff said to one of the pirates. "Nice and easy. Wouldn't wanna get wrecked on this island"
"Aye." The pirate went up to the wheel and started to move the ship out from the shore. The other pirates went up to the sails and took their usual positions.
"Now to get you down below decks and get that leg of yours fixed up, aye, Blaike?" Jeff said to Blaike putting an arm on his shoulder, the pirate still holding Blaike.

Sil dashed back to the water when he heard the pirates planning to head back to their boats. He stumbled, fell, got covered in horrible itchy sand that stuck to his moist skin, picked himself up and kept running until he reached the familiar moist safety of the water.
He dove under a wave and and vanished for a while, he hoped long enough for the Pirates to get back onto their boats, then he bobbed up to the surface, just the top of his head so his inky black eyes were above the water. He carefully swam closer to the boat, inquisitive nature just getting the better of him. Besides, pirates often had sparkly trinkets.

Blaike lay in a hammock below deck, swinging gently to the boat's rocking as they began to drift idly out to sea. The fort's cannons didn't reach that far so they were quite safe.
"Pi'y we didn't even reach their walls," he whispered weakly. He turned his head and looked at Jeff sitting beside him. "The weather wasn't looking too nice last I checked. Might we be lookin' at a storm anytime soon?" As he said this, thunder rumbled in the distance.

Jeff heard the rumble and looked up. "Aye, there's yer answer, Blaike," Jeff said, looking at the floor. "Tis gonna be a rough night. Hope my boat'll make it through the storm and we get to land safely... Though any land is some way off from 'ere..."

Sil caught hold of a trailing line as the ship started to move of staying down in the water for now where he knew he was safe, unless of course the storm got too severe then he'd have to find himself some cover, either on the boat with the pirates or in one of his under water caves.

Blaike closed his eyes and tightened his grip on the bandages against his leg where his wound was. It wasn't too serious -- just painful. The whole ship began to rock gently to and fro as the waves reached higher, but it was a mild storm for the time being. The thunder was some way off and the rain was a very light haze of moist air.
"The scouts are probably hangin' round the shores so there's no way we can turn back now. But if we anchor and try to stay put the waves'll drag us down." He stroked the stubble on his chin in thought and opened his eyes again. "Get us some rum and tell the men to keep us heading nor-east-east." [That's a technical direction, not a stutter]

"Aye, sounds like a plan, Blaike." Jeff said, standing and leaving the room, grabbing a lantern on his way out. Jeff made his way to the storage room, swaying to and fro from the stormy waves against the boat. He entered the storage room and entered it, grabbing a few bottles of rum out of a crate then making his way to the deck. Jeff opened the door just as a wave spashed a little water onto the deck. The pirates were doing their job sure enough.
"Be heading nor-east-east, men, and a bottle 'o rum for ye all, aye." Jeff yelled to the pirates as he chucked a bottle at one.
"Aye!" They all yelled back.
Jeff returned to the room they were in before and sat down, handing Blaike a bottle and opening his own.

Sil held tight to the line as the boat continued to sail. The small Ildemin wasn't that worried about the storm, yet but even if he was there were still pirates out on the deck so he couldn't risk climbing up yet.

Some time later, Blaike sent orders for the bulk of the crew to go and rest. All that remained above deck was a man in the crow's nest, and a couple of armed men to patrol the deck, as well as the man at the wheel. At the other end of the lower deck, Blaike was resting in his hammock, his weary eyes fixed on the round glass window opposite him.
"How far have ye sailed?" he asked, coughing. "The storm is prolly gonna hold this pace for some 'ours yet. Arr, my leg's killin' me..."

"Arrr, I dun know how far we sailed. We'll get through this storm, I'm sure of it." Jeff said, taking a gulp of hus rum. "Hmm, I dunno what to do 'bout yer leg. I may have somethin' in one of 'em cudboards over 'ere." Jeff stood, sawying slightly due to the storm and the rum and waddled over to some cudboards, sorting through them.
"Ah!" He said, standing a moment later, holding a jar of something. He walked back over to Blaike and sat down. "Be warned, Blaike. This might sting a bit." He took out a cloth and dipped it in the jar and then put the cloth on Blaikes leg.

Sil quietly climbed the rope pausing before passing any portholes just in case someone was watching then hurried past them until he was just below the level of the deck. The storm gave him some cover, covering the slight sounds of his climbing but there was still a risk of him being seen by one of the men on the deck.
The small boy peeked over the edge of the deck watching the path of the men patrolling the deck and counting to himself until it looked like they might be coming his way at which point he ducked down again flattening against the side of the boat. There was a chance he could knock them both out with darts but that was risky so for now he didn't, he just waited until he heard them move on then scurried over the side onto the deck and into some shadows behind some barrels.
