Name: Talyndal Dacoras
Alias': Talyn, Tali, Tal
Age: 19
Gender: Female
Race: Human
Class/Rank: Mercenary (freelance)
Abilities: Survival skills. Basic skills with sword, bow, and miniature throwing axes. Advanced skill with staffs and various types of daggers and knives (throwing knives she has a natural talent for, everything else she practiced diligently). Reading and writing. Figuring. Basic logistics. Speed and endurance.
Personality: Talyndal has a tendency to remain aloof, which led to her becoming a freelance mercenary rather than joining a company of mercs. She has a strong sense of right and wrong, so she usually is very picky on which jobs she takes - so she often has to go without everything but the basic necessities. She finds killing distasteful, and only does it when necessary - when she or someone else depending on her would die otherwise. She loves cute and fluffy things, and her big weakness is children - meaning that she'll be livid if anyone mishandles one whatever race it is - and she ends up playing caretaker to children more often than one would expect for a merc. People tend to drop dead around her, it seems. So she tends not to stick around - partially because she doesn't want harm to come to those around her, and partially because people get suspicious/worried about the number of deaths that seem to happen around her for no apparent reason.
Appearance: Tal has short, curly, dark brown hair. Her eyes are a greenish hazel, and rather dreamy when she's not working on something. Her face is kind of impish, and she looks somewhat otherworldly at times. She's pale, and she burns and freckles easily, but always returns to pale if she spends a few weeks out of the sun. Talyn is rather small; height-wise she's 5'2.5" (and yes she's that specific when it comes down to it), weight-wise she's 127 lbs, and proportionally ... well, she's femininely-shaped without being absurdly so for a mercenary. And she's often wearing light chain-mail anyway so its not regularly noticeable. Onto clothing, then. She likes dark clothing, for everyday use, but if she's feels like it she might dress like the little noble-girl she is - if she has the cash and the mind to spend it on something as silly as fancy clothing which she very rarely does.
Distinguishing Marks: Black and green dragon tattoos, twining around her wrists and ankles.
Weapon/Magic: Short fighting staff with a retractable blade, daggers, knives, and other small blades. She knows the basics with sword-fighting, and is rather good with either a short sword or rapier, but she doesn't own either so tough luck for her. A rather large, shaggy dog. Desc. of dog below.
History: Talyndal is the only child of a lowly lord fallen to hard times. Her mother died months after she was born, all her father ever said about it was something about a teacup. His only choices were to train her to be a good little girl so she could find a suitable husband and hope she was taken care of, or train her to take care of herself. Lord Dacoras did not have much faith in his fellow lords, therefore he chose the latter. Not only was she taught to fight and survive in the wilderness if necessary, she was taught to read and write, and to figure - calculate - to be independent and self-sufficient - to think before speaking and to trust only those who have proven that they could be trusted. He taught her everything that he knew of fighting, that he felt that she would be able to use, but died before finishing her training - cause unknown.
Her father's weapons-master took pity on the lost, orphaned, and wretched little fighter and continued her training. Free of cost, giving her a place to sleep, and basically welcoming her into his tiny home. Talyn became proficient with a peculiar type of staff with a retractable blade, that had been the weapon-master's specialty as well - she eventually surpassed his ability with it though. Her skill with knife fighting surpassed her father's although it fell well below the weapons-master. With throwing knives she rarely ever missed her mark. She grasped the basics of sword fighting, but she was too small to actually use one at the time the weapons-master was training her. Same with axes, though she took a liking to minature throwing axes she didn't proceed very well as he had no idea how to use the dinky little things. With the bow... well, if perhaps she found a smaller bow, she would find it less trying. Maybe. Mostly she likes her strange little fighting staff and and small pointy objects.
The weapons-master died of a rather unusual accident involving a broom and a waterspout when she was twelve, depriving her of her teacher and leaving her with a lingering distrust for brooms and his gigantic shaggy dog.
After burying the corpse, Talyn and the dog - Vrral - lived in the weapons-master's house for three years. They lived off of the forest that it was built alongside, and Tal practiced with Vrral who was a rather smart dog and had chosen Tal his his new master. She picked up easily which hand gestures meant what, as she had known the basics from living with his original master and the strange dog was patient with her and tended to do what she want even if she got things wrong. Things remained calm until they were driven from the small house by people who wanted the place for themselves.
Talyn took what she could, what mattered - the weapons she could use and the books - and fled into the forest with Vrral. There they lived for a year, travelling randomly through the thick woods, until they came to a small town. She offered to be the guard for a rather poor merchant, and he humored her since she had a big guard dog. Surprising him, when bandits attacked, the sixteen year old girl and the shaggy dog took out all four of the bandits with only minor injuries to themselves. He decided to suggest that she work for one of his friends for a while to 'get the hang of it' - she was basically a hired guard for two years thanks to that lucky break and lived rather well compared to how she would have been off otherwise.
Now she and Vrral are freelancers, with a good reputation, and no food or money. Oh woe.
Vrral - a big, shaggy, black dog - would be taller than Talyn if he was standing up and on all fours he is past her waist in height. He has long white teeth that contrast nicely against his black fur, and bright green eyes. He knows various hand signals, which Tal uses to communicate with him when others are about. He's a smart dog, but he is just a dog. And he is fiercely loyal to his master.
*note*
Talydal can ride Vrral like a horse, if she is unable to walk or needs to get somewhere/away from something quickly. Since she's pretty small, and he's pretty big, he can handle it for quite some time. It'd be much more difficult if there was another rider; unless it was very small he'd tire quickly.
((If her history does not make it apparent, strange things often happen around her. Deaths, for the most part, but there are also less fatal chaotic occurances as well. They are completely out of her control, completely random, and completely weird.))
