Traephen was cautious. This man was asking questions that any normal noble shouldn't be asking. Not to mention he seemed to already know half of the answers to his own questions. Lying could be dangerous, but so could the truth. Traephen hesitated a moment, but finally decided that there was little else he could do.
"I learned mine from books as well. While the books are difficult to come by, and wrought with insane rantings, I have been able to decipher the fact from fiction and developed my skills to a usable level. I'm curious sir, how did you see my training with wind magic earlier today? Was it with Mercury?" he asked. The man seeming to have no qualms about magic use, and as they would already be convicted should this man so desire, Traephen decided that he may as well expand his own knowledge of magic while they were in this predicament.

Ignatius gave a very slow nod as Traephen and Tisiphone explained how they had learned about magic. Then, as Traephen asked him about mercury and wind magic, he seemed to freeze. Like a statue he stared at goodness-knows-what, and he remained this way for a painfully long time, though it was probably no more than twenty seconds.
"Was it with mercury?" he echoed. "Tell me, boy; what colour are my eyes?"

Traephen found this situation rather odd. he felt as if he was in school, being lectured by a teacher, but it was like the teacher was some kind of specter. Thus at the same time he felt annoyed, bored, and threatened. Unusual to say the least.
"White, sir. I thought little of it." he replied, then a notion dawned on him. "Wait, you don't mean you have Mercury IN you eyes, do you? Is that even possible?" he said, in something of disbelief. Mercury was a poisonous metal, so it HAD to be impossible.

A smile curled its way onto Ignatius's stiff lips. It wasn't in the slightest a cheerful smile. It was quite unnerving, as though he would somehow suddenly be behind you, whispering into your ear and smelling your mind. He turned to face them on more of an angle and held out one arm, fingers extended, palm pointed toward the sky. It was as though he was going to cast some magic trick, but nothing seemed to happen. His eyes glistened a silvery white.
"Do your magic books tell you it's impossible?" he asked rather haughtily. "Even the likes of Nicolas Carson did not delve into the magic of the high ones. There are many things you can not begin to imagine about what you call 'magic'."

[Well, I hadn't really planned on being taken in by Templars. in fact, I dare say Tisiphone would not like that very much.]
Tisiphone eyed Ignatius oddly, suppressing the urge to shudder. She didn't like the way this was going at all. "I thank you for rescuing us, My Lord, but we really should be on our way before the Master locks us out of his manor. Come Trae, thank him, and let us be on our way." She started to edge away from Ignatius, trying not to look too conspicuous about it. She could only hope her brother would follow suit.

Traephen was now somewhat disoriented, not used to someone taking interest in him, nor being both interested and fearful of a person, especially all at the same time.
Finally, after a few moments, he regained his conversational bearings well enough to reply. "I-I see. I should one day want to learn more of such things, but my sister is right. I thank you once again, good sir, for aiding us, but we truly must be hurrying back to the manor." and with that he bowed once more.

Ignatius didn't seem troubled by this. In fact, he seemed to sigh with relief and he nodded to them both. Turning slowly and then walking away from them, it seemed as though the city was trying to hide him. Unless he was under a street lamp, he was an ambiguous shadow. By the time he passed beneath the third-farthest lamp, he was nowhere to be seen and the street was strung with silence.

Tisiphone didn't stick around to watch after Ignatius. Though she was grateful to him for saving them, she was unnerved by him on many levels. But she did her best to keep her worries to herself, since Traephan seemed to look up to him. Perhaps his coming wasn't such a bad thing, since she'd always thought that her brother could do with a strong man to look up to, and so far this was the only man her brother really showed any respect for or interest in.
She was so wrapped up in her thoughts she nearly took several wrong turns, only realizing her mistakes when Traephan started to hesitate, knowing she was straying from their usual route through town. At one point she turned to her brother and said, "I'm sorry, Trae, I must seem really out of it now."

Traephen shook his head "No more than I am. That man.....who, or what, is he?" But Traephen simply shook his head again, seeming to bring himself back to the present. "Lets just get back to the manor, it's obviously not safe out here tonight." And with that Traephen glanced about momentarily before pointing at a road. "That way should take us almost straight back to the manor."

Tisiphone followed the way he pointed, and sure enough, the mansion soon loomed up in front of them. But when Tisiphone looked at the massive residence, something in her finally snapped. Iit was irrational and stupid, but she could not go back there!
Tisiphone stopped in her tracks, gazing over the Manor with a haunted expression. "We were lucky tonight, brother. But by all rights we should have died back there! I- I can't keep doing this. I can't keep living here, pretending everything is alright. Not a day doesn't go by when someone is murdered in this town, but our Master doesn't care in the least for our safety."
She shook her head. "If we stay here, we're going to die."
[as you can tell, she's a little shaken up]

Traephen was rather taken aback by what she said, but he knew it was true. While he did want to stay in hopes of learning more magic from the man, but there was something about him that simply wasn't natural, not just the mercury in his eyes, or his openness about magic, but almost an aura.
But first he had to calm Tisiphone. "Sister," he said taking her hand, "I know it was a close call tonight, but we survived, just like we always have. We can leave here, and never come back, but where would we go? Will the next town be any better?" Traephen looked at the house. "If we're leaving we need our things anyhow, all the money we have is there."

Tisiphone was slightly calmed by her brother's efforts, and what he was saying made sense.
Of course it was completely irrational to simply up and leave with no prior planning or preparation. And if they left without telling anyone, the master would surely take offense, and may even have them arrested.
"I guess you're right, Trae. We should at least gather our things and get an idea of where we are going." Wherever that may be. "I suppose we should get some rest too."
