[Granted]
The man gave no more response than a stone would. He headed down the jetty and crossed the plank to the ship, and after a few minutes of work with his fellow tree-trunk-arm sailors, they had transferred all of Georgio's items to the cargo hull. Colten was on the upper deck, waving to Georgio.
"Hey!" he said. "Come up here, so you can meet the captain!" Beside Colten there was a man in a deep blue cloak and wispy white hair, staring down at Georgio with a detached smile.

Georgio strolled awkwardly onto the ship. It was... admirable, he could say. Not exactly a huge galleon, but there was a quaint sense of 'Privateer' written all over it. The triangle edged sails, and merry chuckles of the crew, as they casually tossed bits and bobs off and on the ship. What Georgio couldn't put his finger on, was why the capital steering wheel, had a spoke missing. He shrugged it off, and shook hands with the captain.
"Pleasure to meet you Captain. The boy said I could voyage with your crew..." Georgio looked back with a smile, as his entire cart full of luggage had been loaded already. "And I'm guessing you said yes?"

"Captain Darrin will do," the old man replied without so much as a smile. "And I only said yes because the boy does the jobs I set out for him and does them well. Now, this trip will be a long one, and if you've never been out at deep sea on a boat, now is your chance to find out whether or not you are susceptible to seasickness. Do you catch my drift?"
"You don't have to worry," Colten said to the captain. "This man is my responsibility so you won't even notice he's on board!"
"Wonderful!" Darrin said with what seemed more sarcasm than enthusiasm, though it was difficult to tell. "Then show him his bunk below deck and get out of my sight already!"
Colten walked past Georgio and urged him to follow as he entered the cabin and descended into the lower deck.

Following in tail with the brat, Georgio leaned over to his 'partner' to whisper. "Crab up his breeches maybe?" He chuckled, as they clambered down a frustratingly small stairway, to the lower deck cluttered with crates barrels and sleepy sailors.

Colten turned to Georgio with a laugh. "Hey it's funny you should say that, because about four years ago he... uh... nevermind. You can use this hammock here." He nodded to probably the cleanest piece of cloth in the room, strung between posts like a clothesline. "Perhaps you should check on your items? The captain is trustworthy, but if there's anything metal, someone might try and take it."

Placing his personal belongings beneath the hammock he had been presented with, Georgio chuckled and mused to the boy: "I've taken special precautions to ensure that doesn't happen." With a grin, Georgio watched the boy try and figure out what that meant, while he straightened up his travel worn carpet of a cloak.

Colten frowned a little and then the comment seemed to escape his mind entirely.
"Right. Well. Uhm. You can do whatever. It's gonna take a while to get to... Where are we going again?" He scratched his head and looked to Georgio for an answer.

Leaning against the doorframe, Georgio spoke monotonously clearly. "We are travelling West. With all the phenominon in the world, I believe that there is a fortress to the West, that will be in need of help. I, have that help to give." Procuring a map from within his bustling coat, Georgio pointed out, upon the slender Western continent, to the city of Venzet. "The Imperial troops here are ill equipped. I'm sure of it."

[Jumping forward a while. I imagine the voyage is relatively uneventful]
Colten ducked under a crate being carried by a sailor and skirted along the plank, setting foot on the stone pier with utmost enthusiasm. He spun round and waved, crying out, "Georgio! Hurry up you old git!"
He turned back around to admire what is known as the town of Sonrill. It had quite the peaceful charade going on, what with the rows of tall and lush trees lining the beach between the long piers and the white buildings across from the large park-like area. The houses stretched up a slight hill and then receded again as the ground levelled out. There he stood, waiting for Georgio to catch up and hopefully explain where he wanted to go and how he was going to go about it. The sailors finished moving the man's crates in the meantime.

[I'm led to assume from the world map, that it's a forest between Sonril and Venzet.]
A hand suddenly clamped to the enigmatic boy's shoulder, and a mockingly daunting voice boomed out. "I take it from your 'optimism' that everything is ready to go? I make leave for the Imperial garrison of Venzet."
Guiding his finger along a map, Georgio demonstrated their route. "I shall cross the plains here, and push West to the city."

Colten pulled away from the grasp and stared at the map. He didn't seem to understand what he was being shown, but he just nodded. Slowly, he mimicked Georgio's example, following a dotted line to a circle with the words "Venzet" stamped above it.
"Looks simple enough to me!" he said, enthusiastically bursting into a mild walk, and almost sending Georgio's map off the pier onto the wet sand below. "The town exit is this way! You comin' or not?"

Catching his map, and stuffing it back under his cloak, Georgio stared at the boy with an unreadable look. "Who said you were coming?"
Although secretely, he knew could use the help crossing the nothingness.

"Would you rather pay me for the time we sailed?" Colten asked, smirking over his shoulder. "My sea-companionship doesn't come cheap, ya know... But my land-aid is free."
He grinned and helped Georgio pull his cart up the sloping white road and then the ground levelled out. They got a few strange stares, but overall the town seemed quite peaceful and calm about their presence.
"Not as hectic as I imagined..." he muttered to himself. "Am I the only one that thinks of turmoil and wars when thinking of North Ideitess?"

Chortling, Georgio mused: "I'm sure that there must be some peaceful places. Such as this in fact." Suddenly, a violent jolt from a crate in the cart, caused them both to spin round in alarm. "Ah... my insurance policy." Georgio sighed, slowly reaching into the crate, to produce a frustrated scorpion, which he set free into the long grass of the field. After terrifying Colten with the fear of a deadly poison at least.

Colten was frozen for a moment. "Your... what... policy? Should you be letting that go here? I mean... Ah nevermind." He continued along the road and past the town's iron gates, presently open wide to allow people in and out as they please.
The field outside was vast and green, but there was indeed an air of strangeness. Dark clouds hung ominously in the distance, as though they would never draw nearer but never dissipate, acting like giant spies on the horizon. The trees were green and large, but they were gnarled and bent over. The wind blew in from the south and though it felt fresh, there was the faintest trace of smoke or something dusty in it. Colten shuddered and pulled the side of his cloak around himself. The road ahead was empty for some distance.
