Nari blinked, taken by surprise. Dirn was playfighting? After a moment of thought, he walked past Dirn, heading back into the thick of the forest.
"No time for games if you wanna find the bodies," he said, but then he stopped. "Unless..." he took into his hand a long stick and pointed it at Dirn with a playful grimace, "...the Mighty Warlord finds them first!"
And he spun round and darted into the trees. He then moved to one side, hiding behind a large tree. There, he waited silently for Dirn to find him.

Dirn whipped around and chased after him. "You won't escape justice!" he cried and looked around through the trees. He held his breath and listened carefully. He trained his ears on the sound of breathing. Nari was the largest creature in the woods at the moment. So he figured it wouldn't be hard to track him. And true to form he heard breathing and crept quietly towards a tree. He sprang out from behind it. "I got you now!" he yelled in playful triumph, raising the stick as if to strike him. Though he didn't bring it down hard.

Nari exaggerated the stick's strike and sent himself plummeting into the snow with a forced cry. He spun around and crawled backwards, making a futile reach for his "spear" but failing.
"Oh no! I have no weapon! ... You wouldn't make this an unfair battle, would you?"

Dirn said nothing for a moment. He'd suddenly noticed what Nari could be doing. Just the little corner of his mind that was more grown up. He realized that there was a possibility Nari was testing him. If this was a real fight, would he kill an unarmed opponent. He wasn't sure. But it was no reason to stop the game. "No. I won't. I'll make it torture," he said putting the stick down. "The terrible tickle torture," he said and tickled Nari's ribs.

Nari gave in and rolled in fits of giggles, snow clinging to his fur but not making him feel cold. Then, when he swung an arm to the side, it struck something under the snow. He yelled in surprise and partly in pain, as the object was quite sharp. He rolled Dirn off gently and rubbed his arm. With one foot, he shovelled the snow aside. A metal shield jutted out of the ice. Nari looked at Dirn, his eyes glinting excitement and caution.

Dirn looked at the shield with shining eyes. "Wow! A real shield! Can I have it!?" he asked. "I wanna shield."

Nari paused and then shrugged. "I dunno. It's not mine. Where would you put it?"
Then he began to dig carefully at the rest of the snow after tugging the shield out, to see what else there was. As his claws struck old armour, he went to yell in excitement, but he stopped. A peculiar scent wafted under his nose and he froze. He looked to Dirn to see if he could smell it, too.

[And finally I join with Tern... sorry I've been SO slack with the forums the last few months I've had other things distracting me, it's a bad habit of mine.]
There was a shimmer or something off in the trees near by. Could that be the source of the peculiar scent that wafted toward Nari, and possibly Dirn as well?
A male figure stepped from among the trees, his form indistinct and slightly shadowy at first but gradually becoming apparent as another Sirin as he moved closer to the pair. If he was a Sirin he was dressed differently, even though his general appearance and his markings were right. Six stripes in all being visible, two on each cheek and one on each shoulder all somewhat strangely looking as fresh as the day they were first painted.
This 'Sirin' said nothing and just stood watching Nari and Dirn for a moment, studying them.

Dirn sniffed the air and wandered around a bit, trying to pinpoint the smell. "Yeah I smell it," he said and pointed towards the trees. "You're the oldest so you go look," he said, sounding both frightened and curious. He retreated to continue digging out the armour, though slowly so it seemed more like he was just occupying himself. Dirn touched the single stripe between his eyes and looked up. The smell was almost like a sirin's, but as different as it was similar.

"Heh, okay."
Nari nodded and circled farther from the Sirin boy to find the location of the smell, but when he saw Tern, his eyes widened. He went and pushed the older boy behind the tree by his shoulders.
"What are you doing here?" Nari asked with a hint of anger. "Dirn almost saw you! Don't you think he'd tell someone at the village that you're wandering so close to other Sirins?"

Tern didn't push back when Nari pushed him out of sight behind the tree, though that close the younger boy would notice that his eyes weren't their usual blue. In stead his eyes looked to have purple fog or smoke swirling in them and it was almost like he looked 'through' Nari at something else for a few minutes.
Then his eyes cleared, changing back to blue and he leant close to Nari's ear so he could speak softly enough that Dirn wouldn't hear from where he was. "That's a risk I'll have to take. Someone hid that body there on purpose." He turned his head and sniffed at a scent on the air then studied the surrounding trees and shrubs. "Someone knows this is that pup... you said his name is Dirn..." He paused and tilted his head, staying silent for a moment leaving what ever he was going to say unfinished.
After shaking his head he continued still very quietly so only Nari could hear. "Someone knows this is his hiding place. They wanted someone from the village to find that body and they'll be here soon to catch you both stealing. There's a broken Sirin spear under the body, or very close to it."

Dirn started digging more frantically and saw the armour uncovered more and more. His hands pulled chunks of snow back from the body and piled them aside. His digging uncovered a face, stiff and dead and Dirn jumped back in disgust. He sniffed the air and smelled a faint smell of slowly rotting flesh. He felt his stomach churn and dashed off in the same direction Nari had gone.
He came around the tree to find Nari talking to a sirin who smelled like he wasn't. "Nari! Nari! There's a dead body in the snow!" he cried and vomited on the snow.

"Someone set Dirn up? How could they know all that?"
Nari jumped back when Dirn erupted from around the tree.
"What are y--"
Dirn chucked into the snow and Nari stepped back, and then moved in to make sure Dirn was okay. Seeing he had just been caught by surprise, Nari went back into the clearing and saw the corpse from a distance.
"Tern, keep Dirn back. I'm gonna find the spear before someone else does."
Nari approached the corpse and dove down, digging his hands into the ice yet barely feeling it through his fur. He shuffled along the ground on all fours, sweeping wide and slow in a circle around the corpse. Eventually he struck something, and he managed to pull out the back end of a spear. After further searching, he came upon the front end. The head was bloody.

Tern shook his head, "I don't think they were aiming to set up that pup in particular..."
Then Dirn came around the trees and mentioned the body then threw up. He ignored the throwing up. He nodded when Nari asked him to keep Drin back while he went looking for the spear.
He moved over toward the much younger Sirin, though not too close, and sat down in the snow avoiding the vomit. He remained silent and studied Drin for a while, attention mostly focused on that single stripe between the pup's eyes.

Dirn watched Nari continue the digging and sat in the snow to recover from the shock. "It was so terrible," he muttered, wiping his eyes as they got a little wet. "So gross and terrible." He looked up at the older sirin and noted that he seemed the oldest of them there and that strange duel smell came from him. "Who are you?"
